The PWAFC was originally founded in 1992, when community members, medical professionals, and local hospitals saw a need for free medical care for the low-income families of the Greater Prince William Area.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) allowed the clinic to set up within its facility. This allowed the PWAFC to offer not only medical care but also basic dental care and diabetes education. These clinics at the VDH location were held once weekly and were walk-in only on a first-come first-served basis.
In 2010, through great dedication and hard work, the PWAFC opened its appointment-based health clinic in the basement of St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Woodbridge, Virginia. In 2013, the Episcopal Diocese gave the St. Margaret's facilities to PWAFC for exclusive use as a four-day-a-week appointment and walk-in clinic.
The PWAFC has grown into a primary-care home for hundreds of patients, with thousands of encounters each year run by a small staff and many volunteers.
